Hi, I'm Kira
I am a freelance journalist, and have written for Bustle, Black Ballad, The Indiependent and more!
My main areas of interest are arts, culture and current affairs, but I have written lots of entertainment, celebrity, beauty and style news too. I'm particularly interested in sustainable fashion, affordable housing and healthcare, and bringing awareness to issues impacting specifically Black people and other marginalised groups.
I’m currently in my second year of my BA journalism degree at City, University of London, where I am an inaugural leader of City’s African Caribbean Journalism Network. In my first year, I started writing for Carrot, our university's magazine. In January 2021, I began freelancing alongside my studies, and have worked with a myriad of editors across independent, regional and international publications.
Alongside journalism, I love to listen to podcasts; my current favourites are Vox’s Today Explained and The Receipts Podcast. I’d like to try my hand at radio at some point too! I love to take photos, especially on my film camera, which is a generational treasure passed down from my grandfather. As a born and bred west Londoner, I cherish living in the city and discovering hidden gems to add to my ever-growing list of ‘Places to go’ and ‘Things to do’.
My dream job would be to travel the world discovering the best free-from cuisines from the perspective of a very intolerant foodie, and take pictures documenting cultures beyond my own.
